Emergency Contraceptive
Woodbourne Pharmacy offers emergency hormonal contraception with or without a prescription. Which is often referred to as the "morning after pill,"
For the emergency contraceptive pill to work, you must take it within three days (Levonelle) or five days (ellaOne) of having unprotected sex; the earlier you take it, the more effective it will be.
When used as a single pill, emergency hormonal contraception prevents conception before it starts by:
Postponing the release of an egg or ovulation
Preventing fertilisation of an egg that may already have been released
Stopping a fertilised egg from embedding within the lining of the womb
Emergency hormonal contraception must be taken within 72 hours (Levonelle) or 120 hours (ellaOne) of having unprotected sex, preferably within 24 hours, when it is most effective. It is not an abortifacient and will not cause the abortion of a fertilised egg that has already attached itself to the womb.
We value the confidence our clients place in us when entrusting us with confidential and frequently delicate health-related information You can speak with a chemist in person at the pharmacy, or we are also able to give advice over the phone. Following a more formal, discreet, and private consultation in the pharmacy, we can provide you with this form of contraception if it is deemed safe and appropriate for you.
As a first-choice method of contraception, this type of birth control should not be used frequently. We have a wide selection of contraceptive products in stock, and our pharmacy staff can give you advice on your many options.
